As our city continues to evolve and grow the one ubiquitous element installed seemingly on every corner is the modest concrete barrier and steel scaffold. These systems temporarily herald new things to come, while providing protection for construction alone. Our proposal takes these simple elements and re-imagines, re-mixes and re-deploys them in a novel approach. The barrier and scaffold are modular by design, which by refreshing the look and inserting a whimsical installation we hope to lend a new identity to these often-overlooked elements. Our modular sections could be deployed in one or two parking spots all while naturally providing safe respite from busy traffic. Once deployed the program elements could be selected and installed in what we are calling a bento box assemble — pick your module, program and accessories and it’s ready to go.
